On Saturday, April 9, the exhibition "The Cyclamen Show" by the artist Rakefet Levy will open at the Periscope Gallery in Tel Aviv.
On Saturday, April 9, at 12:00 , a festive opening event will be held at the Periscope Gallery in Tel Aviv, 176 Ben Yehuda Street, for the exhibition "The Cyclamen Show" "(curator: Sari Paran) by the artist Rakefet Levy . The curator of the exhibition is Sherry Paran . Rakefet Levy , an award-winning designer, designed sets and costumes for many productions in the field of performing arts and became a co-creator of playwright / director Hanoch Levin and choreographer Ohad Naharin .
Rakefet Levy established a private school and trained dozens of young artists who continue on their path. About ten years ago, she left her glorious career and the big city and moved to the town of Cumin in Misgav in the Galilee. This is the first time she is creating an exhibition that fully reflects her personal expression. This time in the exhibition at the Periscope Gallery, which was preceded by an exhibition on Ghetto Fighters, another side is not yet known to many - an artist who reveals to the audience the deepest and most hidden layers of her soul, touches every possible sadness in her existence and asks questions about her identity and roots. All this while constantly searching for the image of the home, its place in her life and in the life of her family - the individual and universal home.
Cyclamen is a walking encyclopedia of information, sources of inspiration and materials. It flirts with ceramic objects with inventive patinas, which sometimes look like refined items from distant and sometimes contemporary times. She is an obsessive collector of plants, branches, seeds incorporated into her art, as a metaphor for a life that will grow, flourish and germinate a new world.
Old books are another facet of Cyclamen's collection. She empties them of texts in foreign languages, preserves the illustrations and plays with them with a free hand. She tears, cuts and pastes pages and books, sometimes plants seeds that are transplanted inside the book and sets up their installations that are integrated inside and next to the display cases. Inside the display case of the closets she arranges her objects, such as actors in a play she wrote, directed, dressed and placed. As a surrealist artist she is imprisoned in closets of surprises and fantasies, objects arranged in a fabric that reflects her interests. Within all of these she creates a microcosm or theater of the world, based on a collection of personal and family memories and creates a world within a world.
The circus, which accompanies her all her life under the influence of the ongoing work with Hanoch Levin, connects strange joy with infiltrating grief. The constant search for a house gives rise to a series of mobile, dim houses, within which she has organized "stages" that are amplified by artistic means. Cyclamen's house is temporary, wandering and rolling in the wind, like a tent in a circus. She chases after him and tries to grab him like a box that will hold her, but in vain. This hole in her soul cannot be filled and it becomes an engine for her creation.
Her artist books are part of the creative process and are an art object for everything. The showcase is an important part of her imaginary home and belongs to the tradition of wonder rooms born in the 18th century. The closets are a secret and closed place that contains memories and souvenirs. A dining table and cutlery placed on it are an integral part of a home, so it creates collections, families of dishes. Cyclamen Levy is likened to a closet full of drawers, in each of which are hidden treasures collected during her life and she pulls them out, as inspiration for the stories she tells.
Levy is an award-winning designer, who designed sets and costumes for many productions in the field of performing arts, and as mentioned, she became a co-creator of the playwright Hanoch Levin and a partner in the productions of Ohad Naharin . She is a graduate of the School of Art and Design and Fashion at Shenkar College, winner of the Ophir Prize and the Israeli Theater Prize . She founded and managed a private school for the performing arts in Tel Aviv, taught at Shenkar, the School of Visual Theater in Jerusalem, the Vital College of Art in Tel Aviv, the Bezalel Academy of Design and the Kalisher School of Art. She is a member of the Culture Committee of the America Israel Foundation and the Judging Committee of the Suzanne Dellal International Dance Competition.

The exhibition "The Cyclamen Show" (curator: Sheri Paran) by the artist Rakefet Levy will be displayed at the "Periscope" Gallery in Tel Aviv from 9.4 to 14.5.
