" Encore ", the new solo exhibition at P8 Gallery is an event that takes place around absences. His starting point is an archive created by Tamar Lev-On, which includes the deaths of female artists and stage artists during or immediately after a performance. Heart attacks, stab wounds, fires and electric shocks: A minor study into the morbid-stage history has yielded dozens of cases and a variety of spectacular tragedies, a step-by-step catalog and a map. These dramas tell the potential of any show to deviate from the system of conventions of art, and to reveal the dynamics that take place beneath the surface between the audience and the performers, in which the stage is always also an altar.
Lev-On, whose work relies on architectural thought and narrative structures, deals with death in relation to the narrative potential of life. In these dramas, of death on stage, she deals with a scan of the arenas on which all those great deaths from life took place - stages, concert halls, clubs and rock festivals. The panoramic drawing she created along the perimeter of the gallery makes it an arena overlooking from the inside walls. At the same time, the space fills a musical sequence created for the exhibition by the musician Ronen Kochavi, who handles the musical sections by means of cutting and pasting, enlarging and emptying, similar to the legality of the written language. The gap between what we see and what we hear turns the gallery into a cemetery or memorial site, reflecting the passion gap that always exists between the stage and us.
