Naomi Linzen: Rising in vain

The artist Naomi Linzen is beginning to establish herself as one of the most intriguing artists in the Israeli art scene.
In her works, in which the preoccupation with materiality and texture stands out, she sketches a personal world and traces the tension created between the hidden and the visible, while dismantling the existing and the familiar and redefining it. Linzen's works deal with the boundary between reality and fiction. They contain an element of deception and invite in-depth observation and active involvement of the viewer. The large spaces of the works draw the viewer's gaze inward, challenge his perception and invite him to enter into them and feel them.

Her solo exhibition , which will be on display at the Artists' House in Kfar Saba from July 16, combines a wide and rich variety of works, representing her work for about a decade. At first glance, we discover a chaos of colors and materials, woven into a weave of configurations, sounds, sounds and feelings of the nap on the fabrics and poses a challenge to the observer.

Linzen works in acrylic paint on canvas in a mixed technique. Her multi-layered paintings reveal and hide together and are characterized by a rich texture. In her works, which move on the border between two-dimensional paintings and three-dimensional relief works, it stands out as a recurring motif in the use of non-standard objects and raw materials that she randomly picks from her immediate surroundings and nature - such as alfalfa, gravel, seeds, shell fragments, sand and small stones.
It combines waste that is outside the space in which it is created, such as broken glass and rusty objects, raw materials collected during cooking, and remnants of materials from the studio - such as peeling acrylic paint or epoxy remnants.
Linzen's creative process is carried out impulsively and spontaneously. At first the artist places the materials arbitrarily on the canvas, but then she unites the various elements by covering with dyes and ointments, until the objects and materials merge into one unit. Once a new identity is formed, it begins a process of reorganization and reconstruction, until the work reaches a balance point. Her work moves between edges: the chaotic and the balanced, the neat and the scattered, the moving and the frozen. On the surface of the canvas a liberating yet precise occurrence is created, striving to touch some personal truth. The artist's painting language moves on the axis that examines the boundary between the identified and the abstract, in a way that leaves the viewer a free space to search for meaning.
