Single Exhibition - Cain

Naga Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the first solo exhibition by Moran Kliger at the gallery.

The exhibition focuses on the biblical story of 'Cain and Abel' as it is also accepted through the Christian interpretation as pre-figuration that announces events and figures in Christianity.

The story of Cain and Abel begins with the story of Adam and Eve expelled from paradise, which by the very expulsion has become the mortals that death expects. At the center of both stories is the question of choice - obedience and acceptance in the face of rebellion and violation. The first murder story in history is actually a story of revenge and morality, guilt and the struggle for acceptance, freedom and sacrifice, life and truth.

The exhibition gives a visual interpretation of Cain and Abel's story through an allegorical installation, which uses various print techniques that give some level of compression and depth on the one hand and obfuscation on the other. The entire exhibition is a kind of attempt to disrupt the mythology as we are used to meeting it in various cultural representations and the creation of alternative iconography.

Moran Kliger's works are time-consuming processes and meticulous planning that combine physical and meditative work. Get started in a small format sketch and then continue with the work itself, which is also multi-step. Sheets of copier papers attached to one large sheet and painted in black (oil-based ink) on their backs are inscribed. The next step is working with pens and ink on the characters and further coloring the background with the color with which the print was made. The stains and dirt created in the transitions between the white paper and the copier paper give plaque work and extra depth. The size of the works is determined according to space and their placement is an integral part of the content of the entire exhibition.

Born in 1981, Moran Kliger graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Communication Design from Shenkar College in 2007 and a Master of Arts in the College of Beit Berl College in 2013. Her works have been exhibited in solo exhibitions in Israel and around the world. In 2019, she exhibited at the Kyosera Museum in Tokyo, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 2018, at the School of Basic Art in 2018, at the Open Biennial of Art in Obero, Sweden, in 2017 at the Ein Harod Museum in 2017, the Jerusalem Biennial for Drawing in 2016, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 2015 Fresh color fair and more. In 2015, she received a scholarship to stay at the Poundhead Foundation in Miami Florida and in 2018 in Sita, Paris.
