Nearly a decade passed from the time when I first planned to paint portraits of trees until the time when I finally ordered from Canvos the largest frames that could be inserted through the opening of my studio. The scale was, in fact, the first condition. I could picture them as vast landscape sheets that joined together into one single object of a multitude of different color assumptions .
In the two months I've been sketching trees outside, I have not created, in fact, not a single sketch to use for drawing; But looking at the trees illustrated to me the wonderful paradox between the expressive listing of the motile races, the spun branches and the countless leaves scattered in hypnotic rhythms, and the abysmal, micro-events slowness that registered them: the movement of the wind, a building built and blocking the light, Looters of cones and the like. The way that each of the branches did from its creation to its present form is a slow, slow recording, one that all existence shares in its formation, whereas on my page it translates into a pencil line .

An unimaginable amount of visual information mocks the mind from every corner and angle of the tree. The tree is a process - simple in its essence and metaphoric in its artistic incarnation, like a painting of sea or sky .

In a measured and gradual process, I have the ability to go down and down the format sizes, with each contraction turning the puzzle into a different answer from the previous one. The medium formats centered on the tree trunk. Two paraphernalia were standing in front of me: a tree trunk by John Constable 1 and the left tree trunk of St. John's sermon by Peter Brueghel 2 -two spectacular races that transcended all their imaginings and changed my gaze in real tree trunks . In the smallest formats of the series, on the other hand, I conjured up the hair-raising scenes of Dozio, Giotto, and Mazatio, where the labyrinthine figurines act as a kind of visual alter ego to the human characters while controlling and directing the eye maneuvers in the composition. I found in my tree trunks the possible expression of this frozen drama of light and form through the theatrical tension created and formed between the trees and their surroundings .

In the painting we experience a certain reversal between the role of light and the role of objects .
It seems that light is the constant and the objects are passing.
Light and shadow form the compositional structures of the composition, while objects are mere concepts. A person, a stool, an eye, or an apple do not exist as separate and autonomous entities, but as cyanobacteria in a dynamic system. The end and beginning of a stain or form is not meant to be a word, but rather a projection of the shadow or of the light, the cut of the shape, or the luster of the color. And yet - there is no light in the painting. There is only the illusion of light. The light in the painting is so fragile that a single ray of true light will penetrate the shutter and illuminate the wall on which the painting hangs - and the painting will die at once .
