With a Japanese fragrance / Silver House Gallery02/12/2018 to - 25/01/2019 Curator: Lori Pashnitsa Victoria Zeltkin, born in Ukraine, immigrated to Israel 25 years ago. Her dream to paint began 8 years ago. As part of her interest in Far East cultures she saw a photograph of an Asian actor who was familiar to her from some series. The smile returned her heart and she longed to perpetuate it on paper. She took a pencil and never stopped painting . Over the years she read about the culture and traditions of the Far East sucked into the mystery that accompanied them. She was intrigued by the Japanese style of painting - the Sumaya. The Sumaya is a Japanese painting based on brush strokes of black ink, and sometimes watercolors from natural pigments. The name Sumaya in Japanese means black ink painting: Sumy - black ink, ah - drawing. The base of the Japanese painting is black and white. In the Japanese conception, the monochromatic painting is perceived as the most colorful painting possible. The ability to create shades of gray from absolute black to pure white is endless, and is related to the amazing ability of the master of the Sumea . Victoria began to paint according to her understanding on rice paper and in order to specialize and enrich her abilities she uses online with a teacher from Moscow. The aim of Sumy-ah's paintings is to capture the essence of the subject or the moment you see in the painting. It is more important to get the impression from reality than to record reality itself. The quick Sumy-ah painting reflects a passing moment and the soul of the artist at that moment. Nature is very dominant in Sumy-ah. Sumy-ah paintings are implicit and loaded with symbols and meanings rooted in Far Eastern cultures. The drawings convey to the viewer his feelings and what is happening in the image of the portrait. The exhibition "Japanese Fragrance" presents works in two series: Portraits of well-known Asian figures are painted in a realistic style using pencil technique. Japanese Sumy-ah paintings - ink technique on rice paper. The artist delicately conveys a sense of charm, respect for culture, and each work is done with utmost sensitivity. It dominates beautifully both pencil and brush and emphasizes every work its fingerprint. The portrait paintings are meticulously recorded, gently, in a very clean line and full of details. Victoria is constantly investigating the stormy emotions behind the face that seem to be frozen, when in fact she gets into the character's shoes and explores her feelings in great detail . The two series differ in action and outcome. But this difference closes a circle of perfection with satisfaction that floods her and fills her with joy and great love.
