Miroslaw Balka: AUSLÖSCHUNG / Dvir galleryטלפון - 03-6043003 01/04/2010 to - 15/05/2010 Dvir Gallery is happy to invite you to the opening of: Miroslaw Balka AUSLÖSCHUNG April 1st, 2010 at 20:00 11 Nahum St., Tel Aviv In the presence of the artist Miroslaw Balkas work has a bare and elegiac quality that is underlined by the careful, minimalist placement of objects and might incorporate personal or self-referential substances such as ash, felt, salt, hair and soap. Through an investigation of both personal and collective memories relating to his Catholic upbringing and the collective experience of Poland's fractured history, Balka explores how subjective traumas are translated into collective histories and vice versa. His materials are simple, everyday objects, but powerfully indicative of hidden memories and the history of Nazi occupation in Poland. Comprising installation, sculpture and video, Balka intends to provide an experience for visitors which is both personal and collective and is not susceptible to easy analysis. By his creation of sensory and emotional experiences through sound, contrasting light and shade; perhaps provoking feelings of apprehension, excitement or intrigue, you find the intensified experience opening into something profound and universal. Balka is currently exhibiting at the Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, London Miroslaw Balka was born in 1958 in Ottwock, Poland where he continues to work. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (2005, 1993 and 1990) and Documenta IX (1992). Solo exhibitions include, Gladstone Gallery, New York (2009), White Cube, London (2009, 2008), K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen, Düsseldorf (2006), Museum of Contemporary Art, Strasbourg (2004), Kroller - Muller Museum, Otterlo (2001), Dundee Contemporary Arts, Scotland (2002) and Stedelijk Museum voor Actuelle Kunst (SMAK), Gent (2001).
