Osama Said - Casting Its Shadow Far Ahead / Ha'Kibbutz galleryטלפון - 03-5232533 04/09/2008 to - 10/10/2008 Osama Said, born 1957, is a native resident of Nahaf, a village near the town of Karmiel, overlooking Akre-Zafed road. Said came back to Israel in 1988 after 16 years in Germany where he earned his Bachelor and Masters degree at the University of Arts in Berlin. During those years Said presented his works in many exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, France, Jordan, Morocco and the USA. His present exhibition at the Hakibbutz gallery is his second solo exhibition in Israel (the first one was displayed at the Gallery of Art in Tamra, curator: Ahmed Kan'an) and his first in Tel Aviv. The title ''Casting its Shadow Far Ahead'' testifies to what is now missing from the landscape paintings which preceded the establishment of the state of Israel. This title attests not only to what is now missing from the landscape painting, i.e. the foliage of the trees that give shade and shelter, but also to Said's motivation to keep emphasizing the absence of all these. The recurring image of the tree stump charges his works over and over with artistic, cultural and political significance, which stem from the traumas of the past as well as the present reality of the Arab minority existence in Israel. Most of the landscape paintings which make his present exhibition were painted in Berlin 1988-1993, out of deep emotions of yearning for his homeland. The feeling of disaster in many of them is evident in the black, burned down, amputated trunk as a testimony to the destruction. location - Ha'Kibbutz gallery Time - 04/09/2008 to - 10/10/2008 |
